10-9-2023 Update

Hello FSI Flight Attendants,

I have received a few inquiries from Members recently, so would like to update Local 578 Members with the status of your Union.

At this time, we have vacancies in all three elected positions – President, Vice President, and Treasurer. We attempted to hold a special election recently, however were not able to complete the election because no nominations were accepted. I have continued introducing New Hires to the Union, responding to all questions, providing Union representation for meetings, and processing grievances until we can fill the vacant positions.

Speaking of New Hires, classes have continued to graduate and come online monthly. Please remember as your new coworkers come on the line we were all new at one time and give them any assistance and guidance that you can to help them be successful at FSI.

I am currently in the process of scheduling a Telephone Town Hall for FSI Flight Attendants similar to the meetings we held during contract negotiations. I will be providing the time and date within the next week along with the ability to submit your questions electronically and RSVP. The meeting will also be recorded for anyone who cannot attend.

There has been a definite increase in the number of mandatory meetings that have been required by FSI Management. Please remember that if you are required to attend a fact-finding meeting, every Member including Probationaries is entitled to have a a Union Representative guaranteed by Section 18.E.1 of your contract:

“A Flight Attendant is entitled to have a union representative present (either in person or telephonically) during any fact-finding meeting with the Company that could lead to discipline or discharge and at any step in the grievance procedure. Union representatives are not permitted to interfere with the Company’s investigation during the fact-finding meeting.”

The right to have a Union representative is one of the principals of the grievance procedures in your Contract and you should never attend a meeting without one. If you need Union representative or are denied the right to Union representative, please contact me immediately at tmcdaniel@twu.org. Also if you would like to be trained as a Union representative to assist you co-workers, please email me at tmcdaniel@twu.org. Remember that the Section 25 – Non-Discrimination protects you from discrimination based on your Union participation as a Representative or Member so you cannot be retaliated against for exercising your rights and protections under your Contract.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I look forward to seeing you on our upcoming Town Hall.

In Solidarity,

Thom McDaniel
